Many parents seek toys that will keep their children entertained for several hours. Children tend to have a short attention span. In addition, they like to be entertained at all times. Of course, parents have other responsibilities such as work and household chores, thus they are unable to keep children amused. Toys become the substitute. There are many types of children toys. Some toys are great for educating children, whereas others may spark imaginative play. Children love to spend time outdoors; therefore many parents select outdoor toys that encourage outdoor play.
There is a variety of outdoor toys available to children. The appropriateness of toys is dependent on a child's age. Younger children enjoy toys such as small moveable cars and bikes. At a young age, children are unable to ride bikes. However, moveable cars for young children are situated low, which allows their little feet to touch the ground. Children in this specific age group also enjoy small playhouses and play centers. Playhouses generally do not require adult supervision, but play centers do. Play center outdoor toys include swings, slides, and climbing poles. Parents should teach playground safety prior to allowing small children to play on outdoor play centers.
Older children may not be interested in toys intended for younger children. Children in this age group prefer outdoor toys such as trampolines, go-karts, bicycles, motorized scooters, and so forth. These toys are very enjoyable and provide hours of fun. However, they are also extremely dangerous when handled improperly. To encourage safety on trampolines, parents should limit the number of children on trampolines. Moreover, children should not be allowed to jump very high or perform risky stunts. Go-karts, bikes, and scooter should not be operated in high traffic areas. If possible, allow children to ride in empty parking lots at schools or parks. To ensure safety, adults should supervise children when they operate motorized vehicles.
